Living Branches Design Story

Living Branches started off as a quick sketch in my sketchbook.

I then drew out the layout to scale, paying attention to how it would repeat. For this design I tested out how I was going to paint it by painting a section before painting the whole design. This allowed me to test out and practice how I wanted the end design to look.

I then began to paint the layers of colour on the final design. I nearly gave up when I put the stripes on the branches as you can see on the second image. But I kept layering paint over the top and sanding it down until it softened.

I then scanned the artwork and repeated it in Photoshop. I then put a dark background into the design and loved how this looked.
